A concrete pool is a fully custom in-ground pool built on site from a steel-reinforced concrete shell, so it can be almost any shape, size or depth. We design and build concrete pools across Adelaide, the Hills and the Fleurieu, with standard builds from about $70,000. Tell us about your block for a written, line-itemed quote.

Concrete pool cost in Adelaide
Concrete pools in Adelaide typically come back in three price tiers. The right band for you depends on your block, the size and shape, the level of finish and the equipment package. Your written quote breaks the cost down line by line so you can see what is included where.
Standard concrete builds — $70,000 – $110,000
Rectangular or freeform family-sized concrete pools with a quality pebble or quartz interior and a complete equipment package. The full custom-shape advantage at the entry price point.
Typical scope: engineered shell, interior finish, equipment, paving allowance.
Premium custom + lap — $95,000 – $160,000
Lap pools (10–15m), infinity edges, integrated spa pods, multi-level decking, premium tile interiors and full automation. The usual choice for view-line homes and architect-designed renovations.
Typical scope: full custom engineering, premium interior, automation, lighting design.
Designer + ultra-premium — $140,000 – $250,000+
Architectural feature pools: a vanishing edge over a view, glass walls, a raised spa with a cascade, a stone-tile interior and smart-home integration.
Typical scope: architect collaboration, structural engineering, premium materials throughout.
When concrete is the right choice
Concrete suits three common situations:
- Sloping blocks, especially in the Adelaide Hills, where an engineered shell can handle the level changes and retaining. See building a pool on a sloping block.
- Shapes a fibreglass shell can’t match, such as curved feature edges, shapes that work around mature trees, or a pool and spa built as one.
- Long lap pools, where shells over about 12 metres become hard to transport and crane in. See lap pools.
If your block is flat, accessible and a standard shell size suits you, a fibreglass pool is usually quicker and cheaper. Our fibreglass vs concrete guide compares the two in detail.
Interior finish — the choice that matters
Pebble finishes are the Australian standard: durable, natural-looking and available in many tones. Quartz finishes give a smoother, more even look. Glass-bead and full glass-tile interiors are the premium options, striking but at a real cost. We break out interior options on your written quote so you can see what each finish costs before you choose. Our guide to pool tiling vs pebble interiors explains the trade-offs.
How long a concrete pool takes
Concrete is slower than fibreglass. Allow around 10 to 14 weeks on site once approvals are in place, longer if the weather turns or the excavation hits rock. The main stages are excavation, steel reinforcement, the concrete shell and curing, plumbing, the interior finish, coping and paving, equipment, filling, the safety barrier and the council inspection. We schedule the trades end to end so you know what is happening each week.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a concrete pool cost in Adelaide?
Standard family-sized concrete pools typically cost $70,000 – $110,000. Premium custom and lap pools are typically $95,000 – $160,000, and designer builds run from about $140,000 upwards. Your quote depends on your block, size, shape and finish.
How long does it take to build a concrete pool?
Typically 10 to 14 weeks on site once development approval is in place. Rock, wet weather, difficult access and complex designs can add time.
Is a concrete pool better than fibreglass?
Neither is better for everyone. Concrete gives you complete design freedom and suits sloping blocks and long lap pools. Fibreglass is faster to install, usually cheaper and has a smooth, low-maintenance surface.
Do I need council approval for a concrete pool?
Yes. A new pool needs development approval, and a compliant safety barrier must be in place before the pool is filled. See our guide to council approval for pools in SA.
