Fibreglass pools are the most popular new-pool choice in Adelaide, and for good reason: factory-made shells in proven shapes, a smooth gel-coat surface, a quicker install than concrete and a clear total price before any digging starts. We supply and install fibreglass pools across Adelaide, the Hills and the Fleurieu. Tell us about your block and we’ll return a written, line-itemed quote covering the shell, equipment, fencing and approvals.

Fibreglass pool cost in Adelaide
What you pay depends on shell size, site conditions, finish and equipment. Your written quote shows each part separately so you can see where the money goes.
Compact shells (under 6m) — $28,000 – $42,000
Plunge and courtyard shells for small Adelaide backyards. Around 3–5 weeks on site, a single pump and a slim-line skimmer. See plunge pools if space is tight.
Typical scope: shell, base prep, equipment, basic coping.
Family shells (6–8m) — $42,000 – $68,000
The most popular size, in proven shapes from Australian shell manufacturers. Bench seats, swim-jet options and premium gel-coat colours are available.
Typical scope: shell, full equipment, premium coping, paving consultation.
Premium and lap shells — $60,000 – $95,000
8m-plus shells, including dedicated lap shapes of 10–12m. Wider beach entries, attached spa pods, premium colours and top-tier equipment. See lap pools for swimming-focused builds.
Typical scope: shell, full equipment, automation, premium finish.

Why most Adelaide families choose fibreglass
- Speed. Most fibreglass pools take 4–8 weeks on site. Concrete usually takes 12 weeks or more. If you want to be swimming this summer, that difference matters.
- Price certainty. The shell price is fixed before site work starts, so the biggest single cost is known on day one.
- Comfortable, low-maintenance surface. Gel-coat is smooth underfoot and harder for algae to grip than a rough concrete interior, so the pool tends to need fewer chemicals and less brushing.
- Long resurfacing cycle. A well-maintained gel-coat surface usually lasts 25–30 years before it needs renewing.
The trade-off is design flexibility: you choose from a manufacturer’s range of shapes and sizes rather than designing your own. If your block needs an unusual shape, a vanishing edge or a pool longer than the shell range, concrete is the better fit. Our fibreglass vs concrete comparison covers this in detail, and our concrete pools page explains the custom route.
How a fibreglass pool is installed
- Site visit and shell selection. We measure the yard, check access and setbacks, and help you choose a shell that suits the block, not just whatever is in stock.
- Approvals. Every pool in South Australia that can hold more than 300mm of water needs approval. We prepare the site plan, engineering and fencing details and lodge them. See council permits for pools in SA.
- Excavation and base. The hole is dug slightly larger than the shell and a compacted base is laid. On reactive clay this step is engineered carefully, because the ground moves as it wets and dries.
- Shell placement. The shell is craned in, levelled and backfilled while it is filled with water, so it settles evenly.
- Plumbing, equipment and coping. Filtration, pump and sanitiser are connected, and coping goes on around the edge.
- Fencing, inspection and handover. A compliant barrier goes in, the final inspection is booked, and we walk you through running the pool.
Our week-by-week pool building process shows what happens at each stage.
Adelaide site conditions that affect the quote
Crane access. Most shells are lifted over the house. In older Eastern Suburbs and inner-north streets, overhead power lines, street trees and narrow frontages can limit where a crane can set up. Some Adelaide Hills blocks need a longer-reach crane. We assess this at the site visit and price it in, so it isn’t a surprise on the day.
Reactive clay and rock. Much of metro Adelaide sits on reactive clay, and some foothills and Hills blocks hit rock. Both affect excavation time and the engineering under the shell. We tell you if your site needs extra work before you sign.
Sloping blocks. A fibreglass shell needs a level base. On a sloping block that usually means retaining walls or a raised section, which we include in the quote.
Groundwater and drainage. Some low-lying western and coastal suburbs have higher water tables. Drainage around the shell and hydrostatic valves protect the pool from lifting when groundwater rises.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a fibreglass pool cost in Adelaide?
Compact fibreglass shells under 6 metres typically cost $28,000 to $42,000 installed. Family-size shells of 6–8 metres typically cost $42,000 to $68,000, and premium or lap shells cost $60,000 to $95,000. The final price depends on access, soil, fencing, paving and equipment, and each is a separate line on your quote.
How long does it take to install a fibreglass pool?
Most fibreglass pools take 4–8 weeks on site, depending on size, access and weather. Council approval comes before that, so we lodge it as soon as the design is signed off.
Is fibreglass or concrete better for an Adelaide block?
For blocks with clean access where a standard shape fits, fibreglass is usually faster and cheaper. For sloping blocks, unusual shapes, vanishing edges or very long lap pools, concrete is usually the better choice.
How long does a fibreglass pool last?
The shell itself is built to last decades. The gel-coat surface typically needs renewing after 25–30 years, which is a longer cycle than most concrete pool interiors.
What if a crane can’t reach my backyard?
Most sites can be reached with the right crane, sometimes a larger one. If a shell genuinely can’t get in, we’ll tell you at the site visit and price a concrete alternative instead.
Do fibreglass pools suit Adelaide’s clay soils?
Yes, when the base and backfill are done properly. Reactive clay moves as it wets and dries, so the excavation, base and drainage are engineered for your site.
