Pool building cost in Adelaide

Adelaide pool builds typically fall into three price tiers. The right band for you depends on your block, the level of finish and the equipment package. Your quote breaks the cost down line by line so you can see what’s included where. For more detail, see our pool building cost guide.

Plunge & courtyard pools — $25,000 – $45,000

Compact fibreglass plunge pools for small backyards, courtyards and townhouse blocks. Ideal where space is tight but you still want depth, a swim jet or a hydrotherapy bench. See plunge pools.

Typical scope: fibreglass shell, base preparation, install, equipment, fence consultation.

Standard family pools — $40,000 – $80,000

Family-sized fibreglass or vinyl-lined pools. The most popular tier: room for kids and laps, manageable maintenance, and a quicker install. See fibreglass pools.

Typical scope: shell or liner, full equipment package, paving allowance, approval fees.

Premium concrete + custom — $70,000 – $160,000+

Concrete pools, lap pools, infinity edges and full custom shapes. Sloping blocks, view-line pools, integrated spas and designer finishes. See concrete pools.

Typical scope: site engineering, concrete shell, full equipment, premium finish, automation.

What’s included in your quote

You fill in the quote form and we return a written, line-itemed quote sized to your block. We can price more than one option side by side, such as a fibreglass plunge pool, a family fibreglass pool and a concrete build. Each quote covers the shell or structure, equipment, a paving line item, council approval fees and an indicative timeline. There’s no deposit at the quote stage.

How a pool build works

  1. Site visit and design. We look at access, soil, slope, services and where the pool, fence and equipment will sit.
  2. Written quote. Every item priced separately, with options where they help you decide.
  3. Approvals. We prepare and lodge the development application. Work starts once it is granted.
  4. Construction. Excavation, shell or structure, plumbing, equipment, coping and paving.
  5. Safety barrier and inspection. The barrier must be complete before the pool is filled (or within two months of the pool being finished, whichever is earlier), and council inspects the pool and barrier.
  6. Handover. We fill and balance the pool and show you how everything runs.

Once approvals are in place, a fibreglass pool typically takes 4–8 weeks on site and a concrete pool 10–14 weeks. Our week-by-week pool building process guide has the detail.

Adelaide block challenges we plan around

Adelaide blocks vary: Hills slopes, reactive clay soils, narrow eastern-suburbs allotments, rock, high water tables near the coast and tight access lanes. Our quotes account for site access, soil, vegetation removal and planning overlays before they reach you, so the price you see reflects your block.

Approvals and fencing, in one quote

Every new pool needs development approval and a compliant child-safety barrier. We coordinate the approval, the barrier, gate hardware, CPR signage and the council inspection, so you have one point of contact for the build and the paperwork. Read our guides to council approval for pools in SA and SA pool fencing rules.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to build a pool in Adelaide?

Plunge pools typically cost $25,000 – $45,000, family fibreglass pools $40,000 – $80,000, and concrete custom builds $70,000 – $160,000+. Your quote depends on your block, access, the pool type and the finish.

How long does it take to build a pool?

Once approvals are in place, a fibreglass pool typically takes 4–8 weeks on site and a concrete pool 10–14 weeks. Approvals, weather, rock and access can add time.

Should I choose fibreglass or concrete?

Fibreglass is quicker and usually cheaper, with a smooth surface. Concrete gives complete design freedom and suits sloping blocks and long lap pools. See our fibreglass vs concrete comparison.

Do I need council approval to build a pool?

Yes. In South Australia a new swimming pool or spa pool needs development approval, and a compliant safety barrier must be in place before the pool is filled.
